Adding Modifications

  • The choreography ideas provided throughout the various Drums Alive ® CD booklets and or DVD´s are ideas and progressions that you can work towards.
  • Remember you do not need to utilize all of the choreographies provided for you.
  • Mix and Match. Find out what works best for you an instructor as well as for your participants.
  • Remember to teach to the physical and mental levels of your students.
  • Provide modifications.
  • Replace high impact moves with low impact moves. For example, instead of a jumping jack, tap the toe out to the side (right, then left).
  • Replace quick traveling moves such as a shuffle with a walk or a two-step.
  • If movements around the ball are too fast, have participants walk behind the ball.
  • Remember that quick turning motions may be contraindicated for many participants.
  • Replace turns with marching in place facing front, or march to one side and then march to the other side.
