Endurance is generally understood to be an athlete’s ability to resist an urge to release the strain of an applied load for as long a period of time as possible. This includes both cardiovascular and muscular endurance.

Types of endurance:

  • Overall and localized endurance ( musculature involved)
  • General and specialized endurance ( the particular sports activity)
  • Aerobic and anaerobic endurance (energy provision*)
  • Short-, middle- and long-term endurance (length of time)
  • Strength-, speed-strength and speed endurance ( main aspects of motor function)
