Lesson 21: Drums Alive Basic Practical Techniques

Basic Drumming Hand Positions

Rhythmical Drumming

Drumsticks are held with a firm grip, yet allowing the wrist to be loose and free to move. The drumstick should be held between the index finger and thumb; the other fingers are held loosely on the drumstick.

Power Drumming

Power drumming requires you to hold the drumstick firmly with a stronger grip. All fingers are held firmly and the thumb is held on top of the stick. The wrist remains in a straight line with the elbow.
